The Renaissance-style Town Hall, built in the 17th C is definitely a must see when visiting Corfu City.Then there's the Ionian Academy, built in the 18th C, and known for being the first university of Greece.

In order to become acquainted with the truly venetian Corfu one should pay the 16th C fortress a visit.

Built by Verante Vitelli, its primary purpose was to secure the city against attacks from the Turks.

Another worthwhile attraction at the northern end of the city is the Palace of Saints Michael and George, former residence of the British governors. Visitors with an interest in asian art are richly rewarded since the interior of the palace has been refashioned into a museum.
