Population

The current population of Corfu is approximately 113.000 of which 41.000 are residents of Corfu City, the island's capital. The remaining inhabitants of the island are spread over 12 urban and 3 rural districts, resulting in an overall population density of 176/ km².

Over 90% of Corfiots are of Greek origin, the remainder having a predominantly northern European emigration background. Almost 90% of the population is Greek Orthodox. That said, there is also a Catholic diocese which dates back to the 14th Century as well as a growing Protestant population due to the increasing non-Greek immigration in recent years.
