Administration

Together with the five smaller islands Corfu constitutes the Prefecture of Corfu within the wider administrative region of the Ionian Isles.

Corfu City is not only the capital of the Corfu Prefecture but also seat to the main administration of the four prefectures that comprise the Ionic Islands.

The official language on Corfu is of course modern Greek, though English is also widely spoken on the tourist orientated Island. One is also likely to encounter German speaking Corfiots in the major tourist centres.
