Ornithology at Corfu

Corfu's fauna is no less diverse than its flora. Ornithologists and those with a keen interest in bird life have discovered a miniature paradise on the island.

So far more than 157 species of birds have been counted on the island, some of which are migratory others under the threat of extinction.

Amongst the rarest are the Glossy Ibis (plegadis falcinellus), Pygmy Cormorant (phalacrocorax pygmaeus) and the Gull-billed Tern (gelochelidon nilotica). More common types include eagles, cormorants, wigeons and kingfishers.
